Hyena Cart Design for "K&A Designs"

I'm so excited to be working with Stormy of K&A Designs!

She was looking for a jungle-animal-themed shop with "safari animals- monkeys, elephants, giraffes, birds, cutesy cartoon-ey animals. neutral colors- yellow, green, orange, brown".

We found a darling graphics set and I've designed her shop around the monkey and the color palette from the animals.

Here are a couple of slightly different mock-ups. Colors, animals, placement, etc., can all be changed until they're perfect! Click image to view larger:

Final Watermark Designs for "Closet on Queen Creek"

Here are Rhonda's finished watermarks in different sizes. LOVE how these turned out!

Hyena Cart Design for "Healing Gems", Part II

Darice liked the aurora background but wanted to try something with a bit more pink, lighter, and perhaps with fairies. She wanted to try the header without the fairy and perhaps lighter as well.

Here are a few different mock-ups! 1st has a lighter pink background and white header. This design seems much softer than the space background one and is pleasant to look at. 2nd has a little bit darker pink than the first, and the addition of fairies. 3rd is the original background but with the fairy taken out of the header.

Watermark Design for "Closet on Queen Creek"

Rhonda was looking for a watermark for her gorgeous handmade items at: Closet on Queen Creek.

I tried 3 different ideas for her.
1 - Her original header image with the white background taken out. This one was difficult because the original has a shadow effect so quite a few colors blend into each other. It's not as sharp as the others and not my favorite.
2 - I re-drew her font and the crown image so they would be crisp and clear. Also added a nice embossing effect.
3 - I used a special font and the re-drawn crown image. Also added a nice embossing effect.

Hyena Cart Design for "Healing Gems"

Darice was looking for a new design that incorporates the following: her lotus flower, a fairy, pinks and purples, lots of color, not too much white, and a fun, easy-to-read font. I designed her theme around beautiful swirls of pink and purple space nebula.
Here's the first mock-up!

Here are the final mock-ups for Tiffany's Etsy Shop, Business Cards, and Watermarks!

I added a thin border around the Etsy banners to help them stand out a little bit from the white Etsy background.

Copyrights shown in various sizes. Owl hat image is a sample of how the watermark will look when applied to an image. Purchase price includes instructions on how to add watermarks to images using free online software. :)

Family History Project - Almon B. Bate

Phew! What an incredible, exhausting, fantastic project this was!

My Uncle Peter found my Great-Grandfather's diary in an old box of things from a relative. He asked me to transcribe it for our Bate Family Reunion today. The diary was written in 1927 when Almon was a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hawaii. What an awesome experience it was to see his handwriting and find out about his experiences.

This was a very involved project and my house definitely shows it! I've spent the past few months transcribing the diary when I could squeeze in a moment, but since the reunion was today I spent most of the past week finishing up the transcription and finding historical maps, images, family histories, pedigree charts, and family group records to help get a more complete picture of Almon's life.

Here's a little collage of the project:

Summary of project:
- Scanned each page of the diary (172 pages)
- Transcribed each page (80 pages in document form) with the help of online Hawaiian dictionaries
- Found and copied maps of Hawaii and the railroad line from Utah to California
- Found and copied images of the boats he traveled on and also his gravestone
- Copied Pedigree and Family Group records
- Compiled everything on my computer
- Copied the files to CD's to give away at the reunion today

After the first few pages I was used to Almon's handwriting. The hardest part for me was trying to figure out the Hawaiian words and places!

The reunion today was fantastic! I met many relatives whom I didn't know before, enjoyed handing out CD's and showing Almon's diary, and scanned documents and pictures that some of them had brought. I look forward to getting to know my Bate relatives better at future reunions. :)
